Specialty Medications
Frequently asked questions regarding Specialty medications
Specialty medications are medications that are not readily available at your local pharmacy. Instead they are mailed to your home from a specialized mail order pharmacy.
Q: How long will it take for me to get my medication?
A: Specialty medications often require authorization from your insurance company. This may take additional time as the Insurance Company’s prior authorization department reviews clinical information submitted by the office. Once authorization for your medication is granted the pharmacy will contact you to set up delivery.
Q: What if I cannot afford my medication?
A: Many medications have patient assistance programs in place to help patients that cannot afford their Specialty medications. These programs are available online, by phone, or the staff can provide you a copay card in the office. This information is given to the pharmacy when setting up delivery. We recommend enrolling in these programs as they offer a variety of other services that may benefit you. If your Insurance does not participate with these copay programs ask the office Staff for more information regarding financial assistance.
Q:What do I do once I receive my medication?
A: Once you receive your medication follow the Storage instructions on the package as some medications require refrigeration. Contact the office to schedule a Teaching appointment, so the staff can show you the proper administration techniques and answer any additional questions you have.
If you have any questions please feel free to call the office so we can assist you
